Justin is a highly skilled advocate with a comprehensive understanding of legal systems and regulatory frameworks. Known for excellent legal analysis and thorough research, he is methodical in getting to the technical aspects of a legal matter. He uses his informed, direct and collaborative approach to work within your team, providing legal advice and creating and implementing litigation and alternative dispute resolution strategies. Justin provides practical commercial and legal outcomes for solicitors and clients.
Justin’s clients include large private corporations, state and federal governments, statutory authorities, local councils, and foreign organisations. His extensive experience at the Bar spans arbitration, administrative and family law, native title, and a broad range of commercial law issues, including trade practices law, and building and construction.
Justin accepts briefs to advise and appear in the federal courts; supreme, district and county courts and tribunals; and in several overseas jurisdictions. His in-depth understanding of Chinese legal systems has served him well, allowing him to act in cases involving the laws of the People’s Republic of China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. He has also advised and represented clients in Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea matters. Many of these cases have involved major commercial and regulatory matters for large global entities and large-scale resource companies. Cross-jurisdictional issues, which arise in international commercial disputes or complex family law matters (involving high net-worth individuals with overseas interests), feature regularly.
Justin is passionate about arbitration as an excellent alternative to litigation. He is a graded arbitrator with the Resolution Institute and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has advised on complex arbitral issues, and his skill as an arbitrator is enhanced by his broad commercial knowledge and technical ability, obtained following extensive experience in domestic and foreign jurisdictions.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Justin served as Associate to The Hon Justice Patrick Keane AC, when his Honour was a Justice of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Queensland, and as Legal Associate to The Hon Justices Graham Bell and James Barry of the Family Court of Australia.
